Children in Haiti Eat Mud and Garbage

I was going to make up some pithy text to try to describe this insane situation but the AP video says it all.

Four hurricanes later and the already desperate people of Haiti are destitute beyond anything anyone who owns a computer can imagine. If this is the future of climate change, we are truly in deep shit.

Admittedly, grinding poverty in Haiti has meant that 99% of the forests have been cut down to provide charcoal for people who cannot afford cooking fuel. This has left this island nation particularly vulnerable to even normal tropical weather. That said, the last time Haiti was hit by a hurricane season like this was, well... never.

Please consider giving to the many fine charities that are delivering desperately needed emergency aid to the poorest country in the western hemisphere. Here are some suggestions courtesy of Jeff Masters at the Weather Underground:
